Dave’s Marketplace is a privately owned RI company that has been locally owned and operated since 1969. David started his career in produce, working at the famous Vic’s Fruit stand in the 1960’s. He began Dave’s Fruitland of West Shore Road, Warwick in 1969 and quickly expanded to Greenville, RI. With hard work, and a dedicated staff, these two stores expanded into Dave’s Fruit and Deli – carrying a complete line of cold cuts, meats and poultry. Long time residents still reminiscence about Dave’s aggressive milk pricing: always looking to bring customers great value and a friendly face.

We've Come a Long Way
In 1994, Dave took a big chance and expanded into the 25,000 square foot Star market in North Kingstown under Dave’s Marketplace, reflecting the full service supermarket operation.
1996 – Our Hoxsie location was opened at Airport Rd, after the unfortunate closure of Almac’s supermarkets.
1998 - We took over the old Valueland store in Wickford, RI. Naysayers believed this location was too close to our North Kingstown store to be successful. We proved the pundits wrong, and were on a roll. The success of this store buoyed us to search for another location.
1999 – At the coaxing of two of our “Northern” personnel, we opened our Cumberland store with over 22,000 square feet in the old IGA.
2004 – Our seventh store opened in the middle of one of Rhode Island’s worst winters on record. This store was an A&P, Edwards and finally closed as Ro-Jacks supermarket. To date, this is our largest store at 32,000 square feet in East Greenwich, RI.
A Great Shopping Experience
Dave’s Marketplace has aspired to create great stores. Our history has demonstrated our commitment to our communities by gravitating to once failed icons of business and transforming them into success stories. We have achieved this success because of the tremendous efforts of our now 750+ employees. They excel at service – at every level. And it is apparent and genuine to all of our customers. We value each and every one of our 85,000+ customers that pass through our doors every week. The uniqueness of each our stores continues to reflect the spirit of the community in which they were developed: with photographs adorning the walls, signage and décor represent our heritage and our involvement in our community.
Over the past three years, we have expanded and upgraded each one of our stores. Our Corporate offices have been relocated to East Greenwich to further centralize store operations. With the explosive growth of our Gift Basket Division, we opened our first Gift and Gourmet Basket retail shop where customers can pick up unique gifts, flowers and specialty foods, or create a custom basket. Currently under development, at this same location, we are building a state of the art 10,000 square foot Commissary to support our Prepared Foods program.
Recently we purchased land at the Coventry/West Greenwich line with plans in development to build our largest Marketplace to date: 38,000 square feet. Frequently, we are asked when we will “Cross the Bridge” into the East Bay – We would love to!! …. But let’s wait for the bridge to be done…..
